Goddamn!! The God's particle is FOUND!!!

John Dewey had rightly said that " Every great advancement in science is issued from a new audacity of imagination." Yes, Peter Higgs dared to imagine what no one else did. He looked beyond the real, that was the SURREAL! But sadly, no one paid heed to his thoughts and imaginations. He suggested the presence of the Higgs boson which confers mass to all the constituents of the universe. But no, he never got recognition for his discovery. Even the journal, Physics Letters which was edited by CERN , rejected Mr. Peter's belief. However, Mr. Peter stood by his stand. The two teams i.e. ATLAS and CMS took the herculean task of investigating about the mysterious particle which Higgs talked about.

The study was started by CERN in Large Hadron Collider. The world's largest particle accelerator is as heavy as the Eiffel Tower and half the size of Notre Dame. This gigantic machine multiplies the speed of a particle through a unique process. The particles are firstly injected into the SPS(Super Proton Synchrotron), then they are transferred to the collider for division into two beams. At the last stage, the particles are accelerated as much as the velocity of light making the particles collide four times. The scientists wanted to delve into this particle puzzle.
WHY IS THIS DISCOVERY SO CRUCIAL?
In the standard model, it is postulated that there are 12 fundamental particles in the universe. They are subdivided into Fermions and Bosons . Today, the fermions consist of Electrons, Up quarks and Down quarks. While the four fundamental forces or the bosons are Photon( for electromagnetism), Gluon (binding quarks to hold atomic nuclei together ) , W and Z Bosons ( weak force for decay of particles) and Gravitron ( cause of Gravity). The only missing piece for completion of this model was the Higgs particle which is finally FOUND! As tested and tried within 5 sigma certainty ( it says that the chance of seeing the required signal without the Higgs particle is one-in-a-3.5million ), this path-breaking discovery literally brought science to a new stage.
Science is proven only using theories and postulations. As Linus pauling once said that," Facts are the air of scientists without which they can't fly." It has been a milestone in the history of science bringing new rays of hope. In the words of Peter Higgs, " This is just the beginning."
Hats off to the intrepid scientists at CERN for having dug into the origin of the universe like never before!!

An exam, after all!

It is an exam, she had been told! Some meticulous planning, scheduling and studying Nothing she hadn't aced before School and college work had been rewarding It is yet another exam, after all! Like always, there shall be no stone unturned Read and write for long stretches Stretches and walks in short breaks Selective study as per the marks it fetches Just an exam, after all! More sweat in training meant less blood in battle Day and night wasn't as per the position of sun anymore Portions of syllabus covered decided its end Notes and questions more important than any chore Exam wont wait for her, it wont! This was the time to make things happen Revise and re-revise till facts form a chain A lot was left to summarise and memorise Till each detail has a GPS pin in the brain Exam was coming close, it was! Questions became black holes with no limits to depth Oh wait, not just the recollection and memory She also had to brush her writing skills How is today's politics affected ...

A girl like you

A frantic nudge on the back was enough to wake me up and disturb my deep peaceful slumber time. Before I realised, it was my sister who had seen a bad dream and wanted me to help her go back to sleep. I hugged her closer to myself and mumbled to her that tomorrow morning will be better than today. Within a few minutes, she was asleep on my arm and I kept looking at her 10-year old face for a long time. I wished, then, that she always remain this close to me as she was at that moment. Till now, my wish has unfolded into an eventful journey.  If I was gentle and all nice, she was all about sass, jazz and spice; If I was reserved and introverted, she was social and ‘Noddy’–incarnated;  If I liked uni-colour cloth patches, she carried shiny dresses with unmatched panache; If I found peace in nature and solitude, she preferred blaring music and lots of DJ dance; If I savoured plain idli and chutney, she gormandized on mysore masala dosa and spicy sambar. The two o...

A new terrain and a sloshy lane!

Ever had a dream of you waking up after dreaming inside a tent on the edge of a mountain slope?Well, I did. Today morning, I woke up thinking I am transported to the tribal village of Rajgundha valley which is comfortably seated in the lap of Barot valley and Bir-Billing. It is no surprise that as this was the most recent trek I had gone for. The Trekkers’ Stoppe took yet another unconventional route of exploring the Barot Valley along the Uhl River. Wake up and show up! Hence, the dream I was seeing in my dream was actually the reality. That ‘trek’ morning, I woke up with the feel of warm sunrays urging me to get up. Their penetration through the green tarp of the tent was as blissful as someone gently patting me on my shoulder. I have observed that I have had the best hours of sleep in the tent during my treks. No bad dreams, no wrong postures and no abrupt calls. I didn’t bother to check the time as it seemed like it was broad daylight outside. The previous day had ...
