Strewn away pieces of peace!

What is the common thread running across the gulf countries? OIL! And what is so treacherous about it? EVERYONE WANTS OIL! Remember the famous industrialist Jean Paul Getty saying that the formula for success in the 21st century is 'Rise early and Strike Oil!'

That is the raison d'ĂȘtre for America to capture Iraq and suck as much oil and other natural resources from Iraq. Claiming false brotherhood of Oil, US was able to gain enough out of their control over Iraq. Leaving the nation in 2011, they boasted of having given Iraqi forces the gift of powerful war weapons. Little did the Iraqi puppet leaders know that US had left behind tumultuous times for them to face. During the US reign, America deliberately widened the cultural distance between the Shiias and the Sunnis. This rift got worse when a Shia President took over and the bias in policies grew. And this internal instability gave elbow space for ISIS extremists to put a foot in.
The Jihadis, as agents of the Al-Qaeda,wish to fulfill the dream of forming the Islamic Caliphate.
As analysed by war specialists, ISIS is not a very strong group. Its strength is comparatively lesser and they are dependent on their seizure of territory for funds. Still, Iraq seems to burn because of their attacks and are incapable of retaliation. Well, I think this is because the Iraq army has proven to be weaker. Having been under the US government for 8 long years, the military is well endowed with weapons but is  not well-united. There lies the difference. The comparative strength has allowed the ISIS to commit 1700 cold-blooded murders. One of the ambassadors termed ISIS's assault as "Al-Qaeda on steroids: They seem to be insurmountable." This would not have happened if America had thought of coalesce the different cultural groups apart from just sucking oil for their own needs. So, the reason for the collapse of Iraq which we are moving towards is the lack of an independent political stronghold which can work in unison with the people of Iraq. So deep was the ethnic gulf that most of the resources went in assuring stability of the society and the economy went neglected. None could be taken care of. The oil revenues are all that can fuel the economy but even these can dry up considering the humongous amount of loss incurred.
Well, does ISIS also want OIL? No. They want to be the supreme authority of the Islamic world of which Iraq is a major part. And now the craze for the Caliphate is entrenched in their souls in such a way that they are ready to fight wars jusqu'au bout (a word that was born during the world war I;it means until the end.) While I am penning this, the ISIS has already declared that they are going to "end" the war in Iraq by establishing the Caliphate. We know exactly what extremist rule has done to Afghanistan. I get goosebumps thinking about it after having read Khalid Hosseini's 'And the Mountains Echoed'. Wish these terrorists knew that there has been no war in history that has put an end to war. I feel sad thinking that their myopic view has not only led to the loss of lives of millions but has also made them amaurotic towards their own mission.
This war , as we all know is only leading to loss of life, property and resources. Who gains? No one. Not even the US or China. After all, oil prices are bound to rise and we are already witnessing the stock market fluctuations. And so, if we all love peace and advocate its symbols, then why not act? I wish all developed nations had got together to fight against the tentacles of terrorism. I don't undermine the UN peacekeeping missions but the effects are not very prominent. Each of the nations are only bothered about their citizens being captured but what about their Iraqi brothers and sisters ? Should they die in penury? The developing nations can also do their bit by pushing for such peace agreements through UN and other world organisations. Lets give humanity the priority!
After all, as John Lennon hums," You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us. And the world will live as one!"

An exam, after all!

It is an exam, she had been told! Some meticulous planning, scheduling and studying Nothing she hadn't aced before School and college work had been rewarding It is yet another exam, after all! Like always, there shall be no stone unturned Read and write for long stretches Stretches and walks in short breaks Selective study as per the marks it fetches Just an exam, after all! More sweat in training meant less blood in battle Day and night wasn't as per the position of sun anymore Portions of syllabus covered decided its end Notes and questions more important than any chore Exam wont wait for her, it wont! This was the time to make things happen Revise and re-revise till facts form a chain A lot was left to summarise and memorise Till each detail has a GPS pin in the brain Exam was coming close, it was! Questions became black holes with no limits to depth Oh wait, not just the recollection and memory She also had to brush her writing skills How is today's politics affected

Jo, you there?

Jo sat down on her table, the one beside the window. She could see her mother nourish the plants in the garden with water, just the way she had nurtured her daughters to be the women they are now. Grateful for the blessings, she turned to pen the thoughts welling up in her mind. Today, it was about ‘LOVE’ to her 50 year old self. ------ Dear oldie Jo, Hope you have your perfectly brewed coffee by your side! Love to you was an unknown notion-something that wasn’t much heard of during dinner table conversations or talked about in school or college. Like the rest, you did hear your pals and peers talk about it and experience it based on their instinct. While you understood the mindspace they came from, you didn’t feel the need to experiment. In the early years of adulthood, love seemed too superfluous to you. And in some proportions, you considered it as a distraction that would take you away from yourself and your family. Without judging others, you still felt very sure

A girl like you

A frantic nudge on the back was enough to wake me up and disturb my deep peaceful slumber time. Before I realised, it was my sister who had seen a bad dream and wanted me to help her go back to sleep. I hugged her closer to myself and mumbled to her that tomorrow morning will be better than today. Within a few minutes, she was asleep on my arm and I kept looking at her 10-year old face for a long time. I wished, then, that she always remain this close to me as she was at that moment. Till now, my wish has unfolded into an eventful journey.  If I was gentle and all nice, she was all about sass, jazz and spice; If I was reserved and introverted, she was social and ‘Noddy’–incarnated;  If I liked uni-colour cloth patches, she carried shiny dresses with unmatched panache; If I found peace in nature and solitude, she preferred blaring music and lots of DJ dance; If I savoured plain idli and chutney, she gormandized on mysore masala dosa and spicy sambar. The two of us have
