Back with a Bang!

Dear readers,

I apologise for not having updated my blog for a long time now. Sure, it is a shame as my mother calls it.
But the only way I can redeem myself is by making my blog all the more active from this very moment!

Since this is the first blog post of the year, I would prefer starting it on a philosophical note.

"Goodness is the best investment a man can make!!"- A lesson beautifully depicted through the movie- Its a Wonderful Life.
Its A Wonderful Life Movie Poster.jpg
Last night, I saw this award winning American movie released back in 1946. It made me realise that the greatest gift each one of us has got is called LIFE! Why not make it worthwhile?

A man, George Bailey, who had succeeded his father as the owner of Bailey Building and Loan Association, was now broke. He is the one who is responsible for the deposits made by the people in the township out of their own hard earned money. If he is not able to collect $ 8000, it would mean bankruptcy and then life imprisonment. But guess what saved him- his goodness!!!
George had made countless sacrifices for his brother, parents, relatives and people of the town.  He saved his brother's life due to which he could never hear from one ear. He saved his boss, a medicine shop owner, Mr. Gower from killing a child mistakenly when Gower was about to put poison tablets in the child's prescription. Moreso, he selflessly gave away an opportunity to graduate for his brother and became the caretaker of the family's company. Even after his brother , Harry came after four years, the latter was offered an amazing job by his future father-in-law. So, George could never complete his education. Later on, he married his beloved, Mary who herself was a true embodiment of beneficence. She helped George's bank from collapsing and gave away her honeymoon money of $2000 when they were facing a bank run.
He had made beautiful dreams of travelling the world and making his empires everywhere he went. But could not accomplish the same.

The couple was happy together and their love spread smiles everywhere they went. Their charisma had enchanted people of their town Bertford falls. Amidst all this fairy tale scenario, there was a landlord Mr. Potter who owned almost all the pubic works of the town and his eye was towards George's Bank. George through his bank had helped many of them build their own independent houses. It was through persistent trust and faith, George had won all his customers.

But after losing the $8000, George didn't know how to handle the situation. He scolded the bank chairman, spoke angrily to his wife and children and even begged Mr. Potter for money which the old wreck refused. Disheartened and demotivated, George was about to commit suicide when God sent an angel Mr. Clarence for his rescue. George confessed that he was worth more as dead than alive as his family could atleast live on the insurance money. Clarence then showed George how the world would have been had he not come to earth. George was flabbergasted and begged God to bring him back to life!

He ran back home immediately and embraced his family thanking God for his life. Soon all the residents of the town came to his house and offered him their savings so that he can recollect his bank amount. This way neither did he  lose his bank and nor did he have to go jail. In the end, he sees a book of Adventures of Tom Sawyer on the table which was actually carried by his angel. He smiled and thanked the almighty for his mercy.
The inscription inside the book read-

"Dear George,
Remember no man is a failure who has friends. P.S. Thanks for the wings.
Love Clarence "

Now a little of my side view! This noble man George had absolutely no idea how he had touched so many lives. God himself sent an angel to save one of his benevolent children from his problems. It was heartening to see how goodness helped him wade through the toughest of tides. He was blessed with a wife who loved him more than anyone could have dreamt of. Probably, he couldn't accomplish his mission of the world tour but in the end he got the world at his feet. What more could a person ask for?
For those who have already seen the movie, reading this post would have brought a smile on your faces. And for those who haven't, now have so many more reasons to watch it. Till then, I ll start penning down my next post!

Jo, you there?

Jo sat down on her table, the one beside the window. She could see her mother nourish the plants in the garden with water, just the way she had nurtured her daughters to be the women they are now. Grateful for the blessings, she turned to pen the thoughts welling up in her mind. Today, it was about ‘LOVE’ to her 50 year old self. ------ Dear oldie Jo, Hope you have your perfectly brewed coffee by your side! Love to you was an unknown notion-something that wasn’t much heard of during dinner table conversations or talked about in school or college. Like the rest, you did hear your pals and peers talk about it and experience it based on their instinct. While you understood the mindspace they came from, you didn’t feel the need to experiment. In the early years of adulthood, love seemed too superfluous to you. And in some proportions, you considered it as a distraction that would take you away from yourself and your family. Without judging others, you still felt very sure

A girl like you

A frantic nudge on the back was enough to wake me up and disturb my deep peaceful slumber time. Before I realised, it was my sister who had seen a bad dream and wanted me to help her go back to sleep. I hugged her closer to myself and mumbled to her that tomorrow morning will be better than today. Within a few minutes, she was asleep on my arm and I kept looking at her 10-year old face for a long time. I wished, then, that she always remain this close to me as she was at that moment. Till now, my wish has unfolded into an eventful journey.  If I was gentle and all nice, she was all about sass, jazz and spice; If I was reserved and introverted, she was social and ‘Noddy’–incarnated;  If I liked uni-colour cloth patches, she carried shiny dresses with unmatched panache; If I found peace in nature and solitude, she preferred blaring music and lots of DJ dance; If I savoured plain idli and chutney, she gormandized on mysore masala dosa and spicy sambar. The two of us have
