Is Taiwan a "state" or a "State" ?

NEWS:
Around two weeks back,  Taiwanese people had gone on a protest march against their president, Mr. Ma Ying Jeou who is alleged of making anti-national moves.

BACKDROP:
Turning the pages of history, the strained relations between the taiwan and China dates back to 1949.The civil war created lot of instability in China. That is the time when most of the refugees crossed the Taiwan strait after being defeated by the chinese and made the small island their home .This small strait slowly  became a miles long divide. It is a prolonged struggle of independence for Taiwan as it is still considered as an extended unit of The Republic of China.
The current prez of Taiwan, Mr. Ma Ying Jeou, has been criticised for introducing pacts that would make them more and more dependent on China. The Prez believes that he wants to extend the trading relations; without realising that it would lead to dilution of the island's unique identity. The native Taiwanese feel that China would use its power to colonise them in the long term.

MY OPINION:
A state is a part of a nation while a "State" is a self governing independent nation. An island though small, if truly able to govern itself, should be recognised as a sovereign nation. Unfortunately, Taiwan is still deprived of the status of a "State".
The surprising fact here is that this partition is not born out of religious or ethnic differences rather ONLY political divide. It is highly unjust that till now the island has not being given an independent status for membership in international organisations. The taiwanese common man is scared that the chinese tycoons would one day grill them to death and take away their land. Is it fair to snatch away someone's motherland and leave them homeless? Absolutely not.
Even the other nations of the world haven't given full hearted support to this small unit. The United States since the yesteryears has been quite fickle-minded about their relationship with Taiwan. Initially, US felt that Taiwan needs full support and sent lot of artillery and warships to their rescue. But seeing China's immense growth and development, US started bending towards the mainland. Today, both China and the US believe in ONE CHINA POLICY. Doesn't it sound highly immoral? An island which had been chopped off from the mainland can't be forced  to be a part of China.
The government of Taiwan must try best to make itself exclusive of China. Yes, the origin of inhabitants of both the lands is same but every human has the right to freedom. On one hand, the republic of China is a one party authoritarian government while Taiwan is a democratic island. Let us not breach on their liberty and rather believe in " LIVE AND LET LIVE!!"   A taiwanese politician once said " All people of the mainland of China are more than welcome  as long as  they don't overstay!"

Jo, you there?

Jo sat down on her table, the one beside the window. She could see her mother nourish the plants in the garden with water, just the way she had nurtured her daughters to be the women they are now. Grateful for the blessings, she turned to pen the thoughts welling up in her mind. Today, it was about ‘LOVE’ to her 50 year old self. ------ Dear oldie Jo, Hope you have your perfectly brewed coffee by your side! Love to you was an unknown notion-something that wasn’t much heard of during dinner table conversations or talked about in school or college. Like the rest, you did hear your pals and peers talk about it and experience it based on their instinct. While you understood the mindspace they came from, you didn’t feel the need to experiment. In the early years of adulthood, love seemed too superfluous to you. And in some proportions, you considered it as a distraction that would take you away from yourself and your family. Without judging others, you still felt very sure

A girl like you

A frantic nudge on the back was enough to wake me up and disturb my deep peaceful slumber time. Before I realised, it was my sister who had seen a bad dream and wanted me to help her go back to sleep. I hugged her closer to myself and mumbled to her that tomorrow morning will be better than today. Within a few minutes, she was asleep on my arm and I kept looking at her 10-year old face for a long time. I wished, then, that she always remain this close to me as she was at that moment. Till now, my wish has unfolded into an eventful journey.  If I was gentle and all nice, she was all about sass, jazz and spice; If I was reserved and introverted, she was social and ‘Noddy’–incarnated;  If I liked uni-colour cloth patches, she carried shiny dresses with unmatched panache; If I found peace in nature and solitude, she preferred blaring music and lots of DJ dance; If I savoured plain idli and chutney, she gormandized on mysore masala dosa and spicy sambar. The two of us have
